The custom Google site search below selectively searches the websites of economic development organizations for regions and local areas.  It includes links to their websites, maps, related content and local contacts for business location decisions.

This Area Search makes it easy for professionals to research potential business locations as they evaluate "long list" or "short list" alternatives for a specific project.

We assist executives through market research and personal referral work and other services, somewhat like a global concierge service for referrals in this niche market.

This local Area Search complements our USA Search, Europe Search and CRE Search features.  Our Media Search helps to find articles about business clusters, and our Event Search is for major trade shows or association events relevant to this niche.

Contact Us if you are an executive who might welcome independent referrals to relevant professionals for your business location plans, or if you are an economic development professional who would like to highlight your area or service through our work.

We can also perform custom marketing services on behalf of an area or service provider, including assistance with existing event plans (networking events, trade show preparations, etc.) or market research and relationship development work.  More>

The above are just some initial examples to demonstrate how this custom search process will work.

The list will be reorganized by country, state, and postal code as the list of participating areas grows.

The city, state and zip codes link to Google Local map searches or are useful for reference in other GIS applications.

These may be "hybrid" maps - combining satellite or aerial photo imagery with maps and search features, with easy drag and zoom tools..

The maps open in a new browser window for convenient reference while referring to other information (their website, Area Report, etc)

The GUIDE "maps" link opens maps and content which we have prepared from other sources to help visualize these business locations.

The organization names link to Area Reports, Area Profiles, or  published Area Surveys as executive summaries describing such business locations.

Personal names link to our GUIDE Biographic Profiles or e-mails (optional) to help introduce the relevant contacts

A few of the above websites have been temporarily included in this Area Search initially just to demonstrate the process in a wider variety of areas as we launch this new service.   While a site search of this website or our main website should make it very easy through our executive summary presentations (Profiles, Surveys, etc.) to recognize when a participating area may be relevant to the interests of a potential investor or advisor, this custom search feature makes it easy to "drill down" for more details about places which may be "on the short list".

In general, this Area Search will be limited to Tour hosts, sponsors, and active participants in our Meeting Point or other GUIDE services to share useful knowledge about their areas (Area Profiles, Area Reports, major property listings, etc.).

Other websites may be added in the future according to feedback from the corporate executives we serve and their professional advisors about areas "on the short list" which they would like to search this way, because this tool is designed for their convenience.

Our Invest USA, Invest in Europe, and global Contacts directories (geographic regions and professional specialties) already make it easy to find relevant websites and follow whatever navigational structure and search options they may offer to present information about their areas or services.  These custom Search features, however, make it fast and easy to use Google's intuitive process to find whatever relevant content has been indexed.

The basic premise behind our GUIDE services (Globally Uniform Investment Data & Experience), such as Area Profiles, Area Surveys, Area Reports and other research, is to provide executive summary information which becomes a convenient search path to quickly discover when a potential business location may be relevant to the needs of a project.

The ability to conveniently search the websites of participating organizations complements this "high level" or "long list" exploratory search work with the ability to drill down for more details while working "on the short list" selection process.

That includes the capability to not only find basic factual data attributes about the area, such as demographic statistics or directories of available properties, but also to quickly search through apparently relevant websites for information to address specific project interests, including the recent experience of other investors in the area or business clusters.

Incidentally, this service may also be useful as an easy way for the participating communities to test how well Google is indexing their websites.  In short, not all content may be found easily in searches, which may require some website design changes to help attract relevant visitors.  The list below may give a rough idea of how comprehensively the total active pages on the website are being indexed, but the point is to use the above search to test whether key words are yielding the expected search results to take potential visitors to the most appropriate pages on the website.  This is, in effect, a quality control process for website design to ensure that visitors can easily find the most relevant content as expected.

Please contact us to discuss how our services may be of assistance.

It should now be easy to visualize that we can make it easier for executives and their advisors to discover when a particular area or service may be relevant to their interests.

We do this through personal referrals as well as our many specialized directories for this niche market and related executive summary content (Area Profiles, Service Profiles, Area Reports, Surveys, Ad Recall, Event Recall, etc.).  These can be found just by searching this site or www.gdi-solutions.com

This service makes it easy to find information about potentially relevant business locations and services in a globally consistent way through navigational links as well as the various custom search features of this website and at http://www.gdi-solutions.com/search.htm

We also provide independent personal referrals in response to project enquiries, like a concierge service with a strong network of contacts and market knowledge.  We can also assist areas and service providers with their targeted marketing efforts.

We can also help executives with custom research needs in particular regions of interest, whether or not a new investment project is being planned at the time.  Our colleague in Europe

The Locations directory includes executive summary Area Profiles which are used for pre-visit briefings and for quick reference at any time.  It  may also include links to the personal Biographic Profiles of the key contacts in such areas.  After a Tour event, it will also include links to the Area Report or other relevant content. As this website develops, it will be easy for visitors to search this website for content relevant to their interests, which will then link out to other websites for more details.  In effect, the executive summary presentations create a search path to find the details, but we have also made it easy to search the relevant websites directly for anything.
Similarly, the Sponsors directory highlights the host organization and well as other sponsors which may participate in support of Tour events.  This may include links to Area Profiles, Service Profiles, Biographic Profiles, Area Reports or other relevant content.

This makes it easy to find such contacts quickly again at any time - both for the Tour participants and others who may not yet have met them, but are interested in the area.

Similar search features by Global Direct Investment Solutions

We have similarly made it easy to search economic development magazine websites, such as to find articles on topics of interest in a globally consistent and easy way.  This will be adapted into a new Media Search feature on this website.

http://www.gdi-solutions.com/research/devmags.htm

The Area Reports directory will make it easy to find any available reports from prior events.  This shares useful market knowledge beyond the few participants involved in the event.

This template example shows the basic structure of such Area Reports.  The content of such reports provides many relevant search paths for any of the consultants or other visitors to this website to find out about the area whenever it may be relevant to their interests.  Area Reports will also be featured on our main website www.gdi-solutions.com

We have also made it easy to search some of the available corporate real estate (CRE) property listing services through the very fast and flexible Google site search feature rather than through standard forms for database queries by common attributes such as the building size, location, eave height, etc.  This makes it possibly to quickly search for anything relevant which might be contained in the property listing.  This will be adapted into a new CRE Search feature on this website, along with other new research features.

http://www.gdi-solutions.com/research/cre_listings.htm

This is a new feature, and will be updated as we confirm who participates to support our work in 2006, including the new Tour events for Area Reports with site consultants or Meeting Point services to pre-schedule introductory meetings at other events.

The Meeting Point service may be helpful to economic development organizations and professional service providers (not just location consultants) which sponsor or have exhibits or hospitality events at trade shows, professional association meetings, or other events.

Meeting Point provides an efficient process to promote and pre-schedule introductory B2B meetings as a shared service at such events.  Instead of trying to arrange meetings exclusively on behalf of one organization, which can be quite costly, this can make it easier to develop introductory meetings for a selective group of participants at such events.

Tips about using these custom site search features

Not all pages on a website may be indexed.  This depends on a variety of website design factors and search engine processes.

The site search tools provided by the respective websites may be more comprehensive if they provide access to content which Google does not index, or very recent content which Google may not have crawled yet.

Since these Google results are the same as those which are available in a general Google Search of the World Wide Web - but limited to the content of a specific site - this can also be helpful for the participating areas to test how Google is finding results on their website, and how the results of interest would appear to Google Search users.  This can make it easier for relevant visitors to find what they are seeking in that area.

Google may not index all website pages of such organizations because of their design, but our market research work in this niche makes many relevant pages available for quick reference in a globally consistent way.

We also maintain an Invest USA directory for regional, city, county and local economic development contacts by state, and a similar NAFTA and Invest in Europe directory .    See also : Global contacts for other business locations and services worldwide.

Area Search (this page) highlights Tour host areas and sponsor organizations.  Additional websites to search may be added selectively.  Suggestions for improvement are welcome.  Relevant reciprocal links are also welcome.

Our main SEARCH feature (button above) focuses on the websites of the professionals so that it is easier to learn about their capabilities and specialization in more detail than the executive summaries we provide in our Service Profiles and Biographic Profiles.   Area Profiles and Area Reports can do the same thing for business locations.

May 10, 2007 - The White House has issued a new "Open Economies" policy statement and press release which includes the new Invest in America initiative at the US Department of Commerce within the International Trade Administration (ITA).

In the past, Commerce Department officials in the International Trade Administration, including Foreign Commercial Service officers and other staff at US embassies, have been tasked primarily with US export promotion and trade policy tasks.  Now they will also focus on the attraction of foreign direct investment projects to the USA.

March 7, 2007 - A new "Invest in America" initiative has been announced by the US Department of Commerce.

This is a major change in US policy.  Other countries proactively seek to attract and retain foreign direct investment projects.

The US has left that almost entirely up to US states and local areas until now as a very fragmented approach with limited resources.

It will take time for this new policy to have a significant impact, but it seems to be a major change in policy which may attract both bi-partisan support and criticism.
